OpenAI Introduces GPT-4.1 Models to ChatGPT: Enhancing Performance and Accessibility

 

With the release of the GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 Mini models, which have been integrated into ChatGPT, OpenAI presented its most recent advances in artificial intelligence. These models meet a wide range of user needs and deliver significant improvements in accessibility, efficiency, and performance.

What's New in GPT-4.1?

1. Expanded Context Window

The context window of GPT-4.1 has been greatly widened to enable up to 1 million tokens. The model can now handle and understand larger datasets thanks to this enhancement, which makes it particularly helpful for challenging tasks like analyzing large codebases or lengthy papers.

2. Enhanced Coding Capabilities

With a 27% increase over GPT-4.5 and a 21% improvement over GPT-4o, the new model shows significant improvements in coding performance. Because of these enhancements, GPT-4.1 is an effective tool for developers looking for ways to produce code with precision and speed.

3. Improved Instruction Following

With an outcome of 38.3% on Scale's MultiChallenge benchmark, GPT-4.1 shows an improved capacity for understanding complex instructions, representing a 10.5% absolute increase over GPT-4o. In a variety of applications, this improvement ensures more precise and reliable responses.

Introduction of GPT-4.1 Mini

In addition to the standard model, OpenAI introduced GPT-4.1 Mini, a reduced version intended to provide excellent performance at lower costs and latency. In intelligence assessments, GPT-4.1 Mini is on par with or better than GPT-4o. Its nearly half latency decrease and 83% savings in costs make it a viable choice for a wider range of consumers.

Availability in ChatGPT

• All customers who pay, including those in the Plus, Pro, and Team tiers, can use GPT-4.1 using the model picker. In the weeks to come, access will be made available to enterprise and academic customers. 

• The Edge The GPT-4.1 Mini has replaced the GPT-4o Mini as the default model for all customers, including those with free accounts.

Transition from Previous Models

OpenAI announced the deprecation of previous models in line with the introduction of GPT-4.1 models.

• GPT-4: By April 30th, I had retired from ChatGPT.
• Preview of GPT-4.5: GPT-4.1 gives similar or superior functionality at a lower cost and delay, hence this version will be quit by July 14.
